Once you find your way to the Ammo bunkers, look around. I find
them an interesting concept for eco-tourism. It could become a
whole community of underground lodging, restaurants and shops, a
virtual "Hobbittown". It's probably a little too cute,
but...They are naturally cooled by the
earth, and well-ventilated, not to mention hurricane proof.
Some
residents seem to have started to stake claim to these natural
fortresses as evidenced by signs on some doors, and one building
has even been turned into an impromptu Art Gallery! And, these
graffiti art works are quite good. The abstracts are very much
modern "cave drawings". There are many talented young
artists in Vieques.
