An Excursion to the Undiscovered Beaches of Vieques

The Gallery | The Beaches | Mt. Pirata | A Poem

This past spring of 2002 our "Roving Reporter", Mike Marchand returned to Vieques with his wife-to-be, Melanie Marshall, to vacation and explore the newly opened western end of the island once owned by the U.S. Navy.

Some of you may remember Michael as the nocturnal and sometimes witty bartender at Bananas. Still others will remember him as an occasional Lounge Lizard at the Crow's Nest Bar & Restaurant.

Michael spent a great deal of time at the beach (when he wasn't sleeping), as did we all, and was always on the lookout for a new and uncrowded beach.

If it had waves for body surfing, all the better.

During his recent sojourn, he documented not only the views and vistas, but also some rather incredible artwork that has been painted on the inside of one of the vacated ammunition bunkers, Number 420.

This is just a small sample of the beauty of the island. We hope you will find your own perfect spot in paradise in Vieques.

Thank you Michael, I will have to get into it more when I return.

Oh, Did I mention Michael is a bit of a poet too?
