Casa Blanca Rustica
The House and Location
Our family lives in the metropolitan Boston area. What we wanted in our
Vieques vacation home was a completely different scene from the artificial
world of the city, the crowded, noisy, urban environment, (which we also
love, for reasons, you, an urban dweller, might understand).
We wanted to get closer to nature; we yearned for unlimited views of peach
and lavender sunrises and sunsets hovering over the blue green waters of the
Caribbean, on the less populated southern shores of the island. We wanted to
see long vistas of sea and sky, of rolling hills, strolling livestock,
meadows, and pastureland. We wanted privacy, quiet, and calm, away from
ambient lighting, so we could pull up the deck chairs, spot the Milky Way
and planets, and count shooting stars (we counted 13 one night!). We knew
from renting on Vieques for five years that this was not asking too much.
We wanted to live comfortably, while surrounded by lush tropical greenery,
away from noisy neighbors, and pick mangos and limns right from the
balcony, from our own fruit trees.
We also needed the spice of funky Esperanza with it's shops and bars, the
dive shop, and kayak rentals . Mostly we wanted the short drive (5 minutes)
to the beauteous mile-long, palm shaded Sun Bay beach, In other words, no
Bravos de Boston for us! (We already live in the real Boston)!
Luckily, we got what we dreamed of ( youll like it too!). Whats our
Vieques home like? Paradise. Its a secluded, light- filled, 8 acre hideaway,
nestled in gently sloping hills with views of the Caribbean, Goat island and
Esperanza. At about 400 feet above sea level we enjoy the cooling embrace of
trade winds, [especially on the hottest days!] . The house is surrounded by
tropical plants and flowers, and is so very quiet.... contented horses and
cattle eye us with curiosity as they graze. The Great Room At 30 x30 feet
with its 14' high, wood- beamed ceilings, the Great Room is a perfect
acoustic shell for listening to music. Sometimes we crank the boombox, push
back the furniture, and dance on the white tile floor. We love the open
kitchen/dining area, which accommodates cooks and kibitzers alike. The
kitchen is well stocked with all the tools needed to turn out fabulous
meals. The Great Room area, with lots of light, is just right for reading and
TV viewing. We have a separate corner for setting up our laptop, or , for
playing cards, or doing a puzzle. To complete the picture, the interior is
cool white, the furniture.. rattan, the paintings.. original water colors of
the Island.

A Typical Day
We start our mornings with a sunrise walk down our road to the main road-
its about 1/2 a mile, and more interesting than any stair master ! After
breakfast on the patio, we head into Esperanza for shopping or just read, or
we head off to snorkel , swim, and picnic at Sun Bay, Media
Luna, or Green
Beach. Others of us nap a little--whatever. Later in the afternoon theres
the sunset watch- almost always breathtaking! ...After dinner, we put on a
CD, turn out the lights , pull up the lounge chairs on the patio , and watch
massive clouds transform themselves over dreamy moonlight reflections on the
ocean. The tree frogs start their symphony and we gradually drift off to
sleep. ... so ending another grueling day in Paradise!
Long term rental is negotiable..........
