Around Mosquito Pier

Out by the old Navy Pier (Mosquito Pier) on the northwest side of the island there are many beaches. They range from easy access, to 4WD only. They are mostly shallow, except by the pier, which was dredged as a deep water port. You may find manatee, manta ray, and any number of varieties of fish. The sand ranges in coarseness and the pier is a main fishing area for locals, both cast-net and line.

When Roosevelt Roads in Ceiba, Puerto Rico was an active Navy base and the western end Vieques housed a satellite of Rosey Roads, Mosquito Pier handled all the boat traffic back and forth between the two.
